How to Book Ropeway in Vaishno Devi: Step-by-Step Guide

How to Book Ropeway in Vaishno Devi: Step by Step Guide

The climb from Bhawan to Bhairon Ghati is steep and tiring after darshan. The ropeway turns it into a short ride. Here is how to get your ticket, with a video walkthrough you can follow on screen.

Every pilgrim to Mata Vaishno Devi is encouraged to visit the Bhairon Temple after darshan, and the walk up is about 2.5 km of uphill track. The Bhawan–Bhairon passenger ropeway cuts that to a few minutes, which helps elderly pilgrims, children and anyone who is already exhausted from the yatra.

Step by step: book your ropeway ticket online

1

Open the official website

Go to maavaishnodevi.org in your browser or the Shrine Board’s official app. Type the address yourself rather than clicking ads or unknown links, as fake booking sites exist.

2

Log in or create your account

Sign in with your registered mobile number or email and verify the OTP. New users can register in a minute.

3

Find the Bhawan–Bhairon Ropeway service

On the home page or services menu, open the ropeway booking option. Menu names can change slightly, so match what you see in the video.

4

Choose your date and time slot

Pick the day you will be at Bhawan and an available slot. Plan it after your darshan time, with some buffer for queues.

5

Add passenger details

Enter the number of passengers, then each person’s name, age and gender. Keep your ID details ready for every traveller.

6

Pay online

Pay by UPI, card or net banking on the secure payment page. Wait for the success message before closing the page.

7

Download and save your ticket

Download the e-ticket and keep a screenshot or printout. Mobile networks at the shrine can be slow, so save it offline.

8

Show the ticket at the ropeway station

At Bhawan, go to the ropeway entry, show your ticket and ID, and board in your slot. Keep the same ticket for the return ride.

No online slot? Try the counter

Online tickets are limited each day by the Shrine Board (the quota was raised to 3,000 a day from January 2024). If slots are full, tickets may still be available at the counters near Bhawan on a first come, first served basis, and queues are shortest early in the day.

Useful tips before you go

  • Book as early as you can in peak seasons like Navratri, school holidays and weekends.
  • Carry your Yatra registration slip and a valid photo ID for everyone in the group.
  • Mobiles, cameras, leather items and large bags are restricted near the shrine. Use the cloakroom and lockers at Bhawan.
  • Ropeway operation depends on weather and wind, so keep a little flexibility in your plan.
  • Book only through the official website and never pay anyone who offers “confirmed” tickets on the road.
