What has changed in Kashmir in 2026

Airport hours

Srinagar flights run roughly 8 am–5 pm because of runway work. The planned 1–16 October shutdown was withdrawn on 4 July; no full closure this year.

New rail link

A direct Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat started on 30 April 2026. Katra–Srinagar trains have run since June 2025.

Gulmarg Gondola

Reopened 25 June 2026 after a month-long closure that began on 25 May. Older blogs saying “closed” are outdated.

Reopened spots

As of February 2026, 42 of about 50 sites closed after the April 2025 Pahalgam attack had reopened. Check each site locally.
Foreign visitors: 2026 reports say the US, UK, Canada and Australia advise against travel to Jammu & Kashmir. The US advisory was said to be under review in August 2026, with no change reported at the time of writing. Check your own government’s advice and insurance terms. The main domestic tourist circuit is operating with security checks.

Going now? Late October is chinar season, and Gulmarg and Sonamarg have already had early snow. The Met department has indicated a milder, drier 2026–27 winter, though heavy spells remain possible. Pack heavy layers and check road status before high-altitude trips.

Kashmir trip package from Delhi

Delhi gives the most choices. Fly into Srinagar (pick a morning flight to fit the 8 am–5 pm window) or go by train via Katra, which adds a night but often saves money when airfares spike. A direct Delhi–Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper is planned, but it is not yet running or bookable, so don’t plan around it. Compare packages on baggage, hotel class and whether Gondola and union cabs are included.

Flights: Delhi–Srinagar is the busiest route, with around 400 direct flights a week. IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express are the main airlines, and the flight takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Trains (Delhi to Katra):

  • Shri Shakti Express (22461): leaves New Delhi 19:05 and reaches Katra at 05:40 daily.
  • Uttar Sampark Kranti (12445): reaches Katra at 07:55, but delays are common, so don’t book a tight connection.
  • Jammu Rajdhani (12425): leaves New Delhi 20:40 and reaches Jammu Tawi at 05:00. Jammu is about 30 km from Katra, so plan an extra transfer.
  • Malwa Express (12919): leaves Delhi 04:30 and reaches Katra at 16:30.
  • Vande Bharat trains also run between Delhi and Katra.

Katra to Srinagar (Vande Bharat):

  • 26401: Katra 08:10 to Srinagar 11:08 (no service on Tuesdays).
  • 26403: Katra 14:55 to Srinagar 17:53 (no service on Wednesdays).
  • Return trains: 26404 leaves Srinagar at 08:00 and 26402 at 14:00.

Kashmir trip package from Mumbai

Compare nonstop and one-stop flights via Delhi, as fares differ sharply and Srinagar’s limited daytime slots push prices up on busy dates. Book early, travel midweek, and set a fare alert. Add the airfare to your package total before comparing quotes, since a low land-only price can hide a costly ticket.

Flights: Mumbai–Srinagar has direct flights on IndiGo and Air India, taking about 3 hours 15 minutes to 5 hours depending on the schedule. One-stop options via Delhi are also available.

Trains: The journey is long (over a day), so most packages use flights. If you prefer rail, take a Mumbai–Delhi train, then the Delhi–Katra and Katra–Srinagar services listed above. Mumbai also has trains to Jammu Tawi and Katra, such as the Swaraj Express, but check current days and timings on IRCTC.

Kashmir trip from Kolkata

Check whether a direct flight runs on your dates; otherwise a connection via Delhi works. Weigh the saving against lost time, since a layover can cost you a sightseeing day. Durga Puja and winter holidays are high-demand periods, so reserve both flights and hotels early.

Flights: Air India and IndiGo sell Kolkata–Srinagar tickets, either direct on some dates or with one stop via Delhi.

Trains: Take a Howrah or Sealdah train to Jammu Tawi, such as the Himgiri Express (12331). Then continue to Katra and take the Vande Bharat to Srinagar. Allow for a long journey of about two days, and book early in peak season.

Kashmir trip from Kerala

Compare departures from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, usually with a connection via Delhi or Mumbai. Budget an extra arrival day.

Flights: Air India and Air India Express sell tickets from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode to Srinagar, mostly with a connection.

Trains: The Himsagar Express (16317) runs from Kanyakumari to Katra via Palakkad, leaving Kanyakumari at 14:15. On the return, 16318 leaves Jammu Tawi on Tuesdays. After reaching Katra, take the Vande Bharat to Srinagar. This suits slow-travel and Vaishno Devi combinations. Mangala Express and Kerala Express connect to Delhi if you prefer changing there.

Kashmir trip package for couple

Plan one houseboat night plus hotels, a private cab and a shikara ride. Ground cost for two is roughly ₹70,000–1,10,000 at comfort level, before flights. If you want honeymoon extras (room décor, cake, candlelight dinner), ask for them in writing. Best months for a couple: spring for gardens, October–November for chinar colour, or winter for snow.

Kashmir trip cost for 3 person

Three travellers can share a triple room and split one vehicle, which lowers transport cost per head. Expect about ₹60,000–1,65,000 total in ground costs from economy to comfort. Many quotes assume twin sharing, so ask for the extra-bed charge, vehicle capacity and luggage space in the final quote.

Kashmir tour package with flight

A flight-inclusive package is convenient but compare it with booking the flight yourself. Ask for one written quote that shows the airline, flight numbers, timings and baggage separate from land cost. Also confirm:

  • Named hotels, room type, meal plan and heating charges.
  • Airport transfers and sightseeing vehicle type.
  • Whether Gondola, union cabs, shikara and entry tickets are included.
  • Cancellation and weather-disruption refund terms, plus a ground emergency contact.

Cheapest tour packages for Kashmir

  1. Travel midweek or in shoulder months (November, early spring).
  2. Compare total value, not the headline per-person price.
  3. Take the Vande Bharat when flights are expensive.
  4. Stay longer in fewer bases and share one vehicle.
  5. Book Gondola on the official portal to avoid mark-ups.
  6. Pay only to the company account and keep receipts.

Darshan and Vaishno Devi yatra

Shankaracharya Temple

Hilltop temple in Srinagar with security checks. Confirm hours.

Kheer Bhawani, Tulmulla

Important shrine outside central Srinagar; check travel time.

Hazratbal Shrine

On Dal Lake. Dress modestly and follow posted rules.

Awantipora ruins

Historic temple remains on the Pahalgam route.
Vaishno Devi is near Katra (Jammu region), not in the Valley. Get the free yatra slip on the official Shrine Board website and carry valid ID. The Katra–Sanjichhat helicopter was reported at ₹2,320 one-way and ₹4,640 return, fixed to 15 Oct 2026, so verify the revised fare officially. Combine it by taking the Srinagar–Katra Vande Bharat and allow 2–3 extra days. Amarnath Yatra is seasonal and is not running now.

Safety tips

  • Carry photo ID and expect security checks.
  • Check weather, road and Gondola status each morning.
  • Skip Gondola Phase 2 (about 4,000 m) if you have heart or breathing issues.
  • Download offline maps; coverage is weak in Gulmarg.
  • Agree pony, guide and taxi rates first; use authorized operators.
  • Buy travel insurance that covers J&K and weather disruption.
